There’s nothing wrong with me. There’s nothing wrong with you. The truth is, it’s the society who’s fucked up. We are constantly judged by verbal blows from people who aren’t even close to being perfect yet they expect us to be one. I know i gained weight BUT I AM NOT FAT. I didn’t grow horns or a tail or anything and some people speak and point it out and make me feel like i’m 500 pounds. They point out flaws like as if they’re models who stepped out from the magazines ready to conquer the world. THEY ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE. Why are some people mean? Why do they make it a hobby to point a person’s flaw face to face and expect you to feel good about it. Why can’t you just say something positive and brighten someone else’s day? If it happened to you, would you be as happy or would you snap out of your perfect world? Sometimes, you know, you can act unaffected for some time but remember…not all the time. The world is round and tomorrow may just be different for some. Totally.

Grimm Season 1: A Review
Earlier this year, a new show appeared on NBC. The name of this new show was Grimm, and it was supposed to be a combination cop/fantasy drama. Naturally, I was intrigued with the concept and gave the show a look. The first episode, while engaging, left me with little emotional investment in the characters, aside from the singular entertaining character of Monroe. The entirety of the early episodes were spent on establishing background for the show. That’s not to say that these episodes were bad, its just that they were lacking emotional depth and substantial character development. The concept of the show is that there are monsters that live among us and that look like us, but have interesting abilities and forms that differ from normal humans. The only people that can see these true forms are other monsters and Grimms- the heroes that traditionally try to maintain the balance.
The primary characters that we are introduced to are Nick; a grimm who can see the true forms of various monsters and a cop, Hank; Nick’s partner who is only a cop, Monroe; a Blutbad (think werewolf, but more human) and Nick’s only genuine friend apparently. There is also Nick’s serious girlfriend, Juliet, but to be frank she is only of major import in later episodes, and even then is not a character whom the audience identifies with on a personal level. My personal favorite character out of these is Monroe, as all of the other characters lack depth, while Monroe has an engaging and interesting past that we seek to explore.
But despite a rather shaky start, the show began to build momentum as the main character of Nick discovered more and more about his heritage and how to use his ancestral abilities: enhanced speed and strength, as well as the ability to see these creatures. He is tutored in his path by Monroe, and by the old books in the trailer that his aunt left him. Despite being a rather typical hero, you cannot help but cheer for Nick as he progresses throughout the season. With the help of the police department of Portland, Oregon, and his monster allies, Nick survives against mounting odds. by the finale, he becomes a medieval badass, taking down trained monsters that are sent to kill him. The plotlines become more involved and each of the characters more engaging.
Grimm, by the end, became a fantastic show. Once Upon a Time, which at one point outranked Grimm, became more formulaic and cliched as the season progressed. Grimm, on the other hand, grew out of its formula and became quite decent. While the characters of Juliet and Nick I still find lacking in depth and sexual tension, in my mind they have become more fleshed out than before. And the supporting cast, with their backstories and motives, truly shine towards the latter episodes. Grimm is a very good show that I hope will grow in its second season to go from good to great.
